Deone Bucannon

The first player signed by the Buccaneers in free agency was versatile defender Deone Bucannon, formerly of the Arizona Cardinals. Bucannon was not shy about the role that returning to familiar faces played in his decision to come to Tampa Bay

"“This whole coaching staff is the coaching staff that drafted me… I felt right at home immediately.” (via Buccaneers.com)"

The linebacker/safety hybrid could not contain himself when talking about defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, and may have possibly given a slight to former head coach Steve Wilks at the same time:

"“Coach Bowles is one of the smartest defensive minds I’ve ever been around… he knows exactly how to use his players, exactly how to orchestrate.” (via Buccaneers.com)"

Bucannon stated that he immediately new he had made the right decision based off of the outpouring of support that he received from followers of the team on social media, stating it really solidify to him “How great this city is, how great the fanbase is… this couldn’t have been a better city and I’m glad I’m here.”

Just to be clear, Bucannon did not sign with the Buccaneers just to be renunited, but also to go to war and compete. He was asked if he thought the Bucs had a chance to compete in 2019, and he did not hold back words:

"“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think that… I don’t believe in rebuilding… I’m looking forward to competing and winning.” (via Buccaneers.com)"

It is refreshing to add another gritty defender to a defense in need of some toughness.
