The Buccaneers signed Breshad Perriman to a one-year deal worth $4 million after backing out of a verbal agreement with the Cleveland Browns. In a move that is cost efficient with the ability to pay dividends for Tampa Bay, this looks like a solid move on paper and on the salary cap.
On the verge of being labeled a bust and being out of the league, Perriman turned his career around last year with the Browns. While his stats do not jump off the sheet, Perriman was a solid addition, finding himself on the other end of Baker Mayfield deep balls, making quality catches on third down and in clutch situations.
After the trade of DeSean Jackson, the Buccaneers were in need of a deep threat, and found his replacement in Perriman. Not to mention, they saved $6 million in 2018 by ridding themselves of Jackson and adding Perriman.
If Perriman continues his trajectory back to the level of productivity that the Baltimore Ravens thought they were getting when they drafted him in the first round nearly four years ago, he too will get a massive extension. Tampa Bay becomes his stop along the way at an efficient cost to continue to revive his career.
