John Cominsky, DE, Charleston (WV)

Another small school prospect, John Cominsky from the Division II Charleston University in West Virginia was originally recruited as a quarterback and quickly made the switch to defensive end. Cominsky parlayed his college career into an invitation to the Senior Bowl in Mobile at the end of February.

After a solid showing at the Senior Bowl, the defensive end got the golden ticket to the combine and took advantage of his opportunity. First, measuring in at an elite 6’5¼ and 286 pounds, Cominsky has the size to compete along the front four of an NFL defensive line.

Cominsky proceeded to run a 4.69 40 yard dash and ranked in the 73rd percentile or above in the vertical jump, broad jump, 20 yard shuttle and 20 yard dash among all defensive lineman. The Division II prospect put his name on the map in Indianapolis.

While he tested with the edge rushers at the combine, Cominsky has the size and athleticism to play as a three-technique defensive lineman as well and could give a team seeking to run multiple fronts like, say, Todd Bowles, the flexibility to play as a 4-3 end and a 3-4 three-tech. The Bucs need to give this small school prospect a look on day three.
