Round 4, Pick 107: Connor McGovern, IOL Penn State

The Buccaneers invested a third round pick in last year’s draft in guard Alex Cappa just one year ago, so it would not be in their best interests to do so again. The hole at right guard looks like it is Cappa’s to lose, and the offseason moves made by Tampa Bay would seem to indicate that they do not view the offensive line as an issue.

Here in the opening round of day-three of the draft, the Buccaneers add some depth to the interior of the offensive line and bring in some potential competition for Cappa at the right guard spot in Penn State’s Connor McGovern. While the Buccaneers have added Earl Watford to their offensive line group, adding some younger, and frankly more talented, pieces would serve Tampa Bay well to keep tabs on.

Blocking for the likes of Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders, and Trace McSorley while with the Nittany Lions, McGovern could be looking to protect Jameis Winston and clear holes for Ronald Jones and Peyton Barber next. While he is not quite on the level of Garrett Bradbury, Chris Lindstrom, or Erik McCoy, McGovern still has talent that is worth investing a day-three pick in for the Buccaneers.
