Round 5, Pick 145: Rodney Anderson, RB, Oklahoma

It seems like in every mock draft that we have done, the fifth round is the sweet spot for the Buccaneers to add another running back to their roster. Here is no different as they add Rodney Anderson from Oklahoma. Anderson very well could have been the best running back in this draft class if it were not for his injury in 2018 that put him out for the whole season.

With Peyton Barber and last year’s second round pick Ronald Jones already on the roster, the Buccaneers can afford to give Anderson additional time to heal and could be getting the steal of the draft. If he is able to contribute in 2019, then it is an added bonus for Tampa Bay.

Neither Barber nor Jones are equipped with the skillset to be an efficient receiver out of the backfield, an element that Anderson would bring to the Buccaneers offense. In addition to rushing for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2017, Anderson also caught 17 passes for 281 yards and scored an additional five times through the air.

With Barber back on just a one-year deal, Anderson would also give the Buccaneers the flexibility to move on from him after the 2019 season if they feel that Jones has developed and Barber has underperformed. Here in the fifth round Tampa Bay takes a flyer on the Oklahoma running back.
