Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky

The second and only other inexcusable “Licht deserves to be fired for this” player that the Buccaneers should take ahead of White if the opportunity presents itself is Josh Allen from the University of Kentucky. Allen could be argued as the best edge rusher in this class as he tested better than Bosa, and won SEC Defensive Player of the Year… over White.

Again, elite pass rushers are at a much higher premium than linebackers, and if there is a linebacker on the board who put up 21.5 tackles for loss and 17 sacks in the toughest conference in college football, he must be obtained. It seems that everybody wants the flashy pick, and White would be the flashy pick, but adding Allen to a defensive front of Jason Pierre-Paul, Vita Vea, and Shaquil Barrett could give the Buccaneers a formidable front in 2019.

Part of the problem with the Tampa Bay secondary is quarterbacks had too much time to pick apart the defense; a coverage linebacker is not going to be part of that solution. The Buccaneers had only one player with double-digit sacks in 2018 in Pierre-Paul, so having the ability to booked the edges with Barrett and Allen is too enticing of a thought to even consider over White.
