Round 6, Pick 208: Jimmy Moreland, CB, James Madison

One of this writer’s favorite prospects in this entire class is small school cornerback Jimmy Moreland from James Madison University. Even after picking up Hargreaves’ fifth-year option yesterday, the Buccaneers are still in the market for a nickel cornerback, a role Moreland is suited to fill.

Named as an All-American, Moreland finished his three year collegiate career with 14 total interceptions; eight two as a freshman, eight as a sophomore, then four in 2018. Moreland has defended an additional 42 passes throughout his career at James Madison as well.

After being snubbed from the combine, Moreland put on a show at his pro day and has put himself onto the draft boards of NFL teams. Running a 4.46 40 yard dash is an excellent time to follow up a 39 inch vertical and 10 foot broad jump with; he also blazed his way to an impressive 6.83 3-cone drill as well. At 5’9½ and 179 pounds, Moreland has the athleticism to make up for his lack of size.

In need of a nickel cornerback, the Buccaneers turn their attention to the undersized, but agile and explosive Moreland to fill that role with their sixth round selection. With just one pick to go, Tampa Bay has received quite a haul to this point.
