Cody Ford, Oklahoma

Another surprise faller in the draft last night was Oklahoma offensive lineman Cody Ford. Given that Ford can play both tackle and guard, it was expected he would be a top-20 selection. Instead, prospects such as Chris Lindstrom, Garrett Bradbury, Tytus Howard, and Kaleb McGary all vaulted in front of Ford and pushed him out of the first round.

Ford has played right tackle for the Sooners and blocked for back-to-back Heisman winners in Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield. Could former first overall pick Jameis Winston be next in the list of quarterbacks he could block for? At nearly 6’4 and 329 pounds, Ford has the size to play tackle, while having the speed to move inside to guard as well.

If the Alex Cappa experience in 2019 does not go well in 2019, having a guy like Ford, who could sit and wait for Dotson to move on, to come in and play guard right away for Tampa Bay as well, could be a major asset for the Buccaneers from day-one. Ford has met with the Buccaneers this offseason, and if he is still on the board at 39, he could be on his way to Tampa Bay tomorrow night.
