Anthony Johnson, DL, Florida International (Minicamp tryout)

The last of the reported defensive guys is another minicamp tryout and an in-state prospect. Florida International’s defensive lineman Anthony Johnson joins the Buccaneers and looks to make a name for himself in the process.

Seeing significant playing time over the past two years, Johnson totaled 15.5 tackles and ten sacks in that time. In 2018, Johnson followed up a year with eight tackles for loss and six and a half sacks with a seven and a half tackles for loss and three and a half sack season. Over the past two seasons, Johnson has also batted down five balls at the line of scrimmage. He was named to the All-CUSA Honorable Mention this season as well.

It looks like Gerald McCoy is going to hang around in Tampa Bay, but outside of him and Vita Vea, the Buccaneers lack the depth necessary to give these two breathers. It is unclear who will play on the edge and who will play interior at this point in the offseason in Todd Bowles’ 3-4 scheme, but the depth on the interior is not good.

After searching for some time, Johnson’s pro day numbers could not be located. However, Johnson is listed at 6’3 and 291 pounds on the team website. Based on the depth on the defensive line in Tampa Bay on this point, Johnson may have a solid chance to make the Buccaneers after going undrafted.
