Winner: Todd Bowles

If anyone were to compete with White as the biggest winner of the draft, it would be Bowles. The new Buccaneers’ defensive coordinator came away from this draft with a ton of extra talent to use in a variety of ways after the team drafted six of eight players on the defensive side of the football.

Not only did the Buccaneers add defensive talent, the talent they added frees up the ability for Bowles to use current versatile players on the roster in a number of ways. Tampa Bay now has enough talent to run a handful of schemes, and to run them well thanks to the defensive players added during the draft.

Deone Bucannon will not have to take reps as strictly a linebacker moving forward, but as a hybrid strong safety/linebacker and have the ability to fly around the field. The addition of Anthony Nelson will allow for Bowles to use Carl Nassib, Noah Spence, and Jason Pierre-Paul in a variety of defensive looks as well.

Bowles must be giddy as he thinks about the defensive sets he wants to deploy in 2019 and the different looks he can put on the field. If his defense performs well in 2019 and beyond, Bowles could find himself back on the short list of potential head coaching hires.
