Round 6, Pick 208: Scotty Miller, WR, Bowling Green

Original Pick: Scotty Miller, WR, Bowling Green

After the fifth round the draft turns into a crap shoot of general managers throwing darts against the wall to see what sticks; the Buccaneers may have hit with Bowling Green’s Scotty Miller. While a ton of wide receivers went undrafted, including other slot speedsters such as Wake Forest’s Greg Dortch and Virginia’s Olamide Zaccheaus, Miller may fit the receiving corp best.

After losing slot receiver Adam Humphries to the Tennessee Titans in free agency, the Buccaneers may not have to wait long to deploy his replacement. While Bruce Arians stated Chris Godwin will assume some of the slot responsibilities, Miller looks to be a quality depth piece and to carve out a role of his own.

At his pro day, Miller ran a hand timed 4.32 40 yard dash while hitting 34 inches on his vertical jump and 123 inches on his broad jump at 5’10 and 170 pounds. To go along with his blazing speed, Miller piled together a career of almost 3,000 career yards, 215 catches, and 23 touchdowns; in 2018 he recorded 71 catches for 1,148 yards and nine scores.

With little depth behind Mike Evans and Godwin, Miller looks to battle free agent addition Breshad Perriman for the reps as the third receiver on the team. With that being said, Miller may be on the field a lot in 2019.
