The Tampa Bay Buccaneers first round pick Devin White has finally settled on a jersey number and has the chance to make it as known as Mike Alstott’s 40.

Get ready to order your Devin White jerseys as he has finally revealed his jersey number of choice for 2019 and beyond. After much speculation as to whether or not Tampa Bay Buccaneers first round pick Devin White would be given permission to wear the great Mike Alstott’s 40, he revealed today via social media he will be wearing the number 45.

The middle of the Buccaneers defense will now be full of fours and fives as White wears 45 and Lavonte David takes 54. While White had originally chosen number 41, he seems to have made a quick switch before training camp; it was the right move as 45 is more appealing to the human eye than 41.

White hopes to become more memorable in the number than any other former Buccaneer to have worn it, as they are mostly forgettable. The number was most recently worn by former Buccaneers tight end/fullback Alan Cross, but now falls into the lap of White. Other notable Bucs to wear the number 45 include Jeris White and Wayne Haddix.

For White, while he may have wanted Alstott’s historic number of 40, now has a chance to blaze his own trail. Maybe 20 years down the road some rookie will ask for the number 45 and get the same answer White got with 40: pick a new number rook.
