Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Ndamukong Suh to wear number 93

Ndamukong Suh officially has a number with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it is sure to ruffle some feathers from fans and former players alike.

The long awaited decision of what number Ndamukong Suh will wear as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is over. The newest defensive tackle of the Buccaneers will be given his lifelong number 93, the number of their longest tenured defensive tackle until two weeks ago.

Suh has worn the number 93 ever since entering the NFL with the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and Los Angeles Rams; he even wore the number during his time at the University of Nebraska.

There is now officially a new 93 in town in Tampa Bay, and whether fans like it or not, this is the new reality for the Buccaneers. Another reality in Tampa Bay, it is just a number and nobody will remember he wore it if he plays like he did a year ago and moves to another team after one year.

Just hours after Suh announced he would be wearing 93 in the pewter and red, Gerald McCoy signed with the Carolina Panthers to stay in division. It remains to be seen what offers he turned down to go to the Panthers, but this writer is left wondering if McCoy took a lesser deal to stay in division to play the Buccaneers twice in 2019.

It is now safe to buy a jersey of Suh’s now if that is the sort of risk deemed worth taking. However, with Suh on a one-year deal that number 93 jersey may have a short-lived shelf life in wardrobes all over Tampa Bay.
