Using his platform for the positive, quarterback Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted a camp for the Special Olympics over the weekend.
The offseason does not have to be all work for the players of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as fun is a part of the mental and emotional recovery as well. On Friday, quarterback Jameis Winston and his foundation, the Dream Forever Foundation, hosted their fourth annual football camp with Special Olympics Florida.
Speaking before the event, Winston stated, “I’m so privileged to have the platform that I do have. And I think that these are the things that really matter” (Winston via David Harrison).
Videos of the quarterback having a blast with the campers and occasionally putting a double move on them have been circulating on social media. Throughout the camp, Winston took a break from football activities to work with the campers on their touchdown dances as well, and can be seen dancing with the participants.

While the grind of the season can be strenuous, players, like Winston, use the offseason for acts of kindness for the community of Tampa Bay. Winston is just one of many players who have used their platform for a higher purpose.
Earlier this offseason, left tackle Donovan Smith hosted a walk for Autism Speaks at Raymond James Stadium as well. While the sports in Tampa Bay make the city great, the causes of these players sets the bar even higher for other cities.
Winston, still working on his image around the city and league, is taking strides with acts of generosity and kindness such as this. In the middle of the offseason grind of workouts, covering stories like these provide a nice reprieve.
