Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Breaking down depth at quarterback

UDFA wildcard to keep an eye on
An interesting storyline to follow as the offseason progresses into training camp is the status of undrafted rookie quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. While he is listed as a quarterback on the roster, the Buccaneers may be taking a play out of the Saints’ playbook and using an emergency quarterback as a Swiss Army knife a la Taysom Hill.
At mini-camp last week, Fitzgerald saw time at both quarterback and tight end, as well as on special teams. It seems like this youngster is willing to do whatever it takes to make an NFL roster and looks to make deliberations tough for the Buccaneers.
Throughout his career at Mississippi State, Fitzgerald threw for over 6,200 yards and 55 touchdowns, rushing for an additional 3,600 yards and 46 scores on the ground. Fitzgerald has a versatile skill set and athleticism to boot.
At the combine in March, Fitzgerald ran a 4.64 40 yard dash at 6-4½ and 226 pounds. It certainly is starting to look like the Buccaneers have a distinct role for Fitzgerald planned out as the offseason chugs along. Could this rookie quarterback (if that is what you want to call him) force his way onto the final 53-man roster?
