Question 3: Deone Bucannon

How are the Buccaneers using Deone Bucannon? What kind of packages are they using him in?

Answer:

"“They list him as a linebacker, but you will see him lined up all over the place. It is hard sometimes where we are to tell what [scheme they are in]. With Bowles there is a lot more interchangeable parts… it’s much harder with them to know what they are in."

Once Devin White was drafted, Bucannon’s role came into clearer focus.

"“Bucannon is a guy, once they drafted Devin White, who wasn’t going to be an every down linebacker. What is fun is that they can use him in a lot of different ways… he is probably best suited to be their dime linebacker.”"

Bucannon give the Buccaneers’ defense a world of flexibility and options.

"“We have not seen it much, but Todd Bowles has a look where they have seven guys in defensive back roles on the field at once, so he is certainly a part of that and he kind of cheats because he counts as a defensive back is basically a linebacker.”"

Expect to see Bucannon flying around the field on Sundays.

"“They are going to use him creatively. I wouldn’t expect him to be on the field every down, but I think he will be a big part of their versatility on defense.”"
