Question Four: The running backs

Have you been able to get any indication as to how they will split the running back carries?

Answer:

"“I wouldn’t think they would know that yet and if they did it would not be something they would put forward. What we did see was a lot of praise for Ronald Jones from teammates, from coaches. It is tricky because it is Spring so it is kind of a non-contact, short practice where you can look good, but you are looking good because you know no one can hit you.”"

It sounds like Ronald Jones is on the right track after a rough rookie season in 2018.

"“I do think he has shown the right things to set himself up to have a bigger role. I don’t know if he was even a lock to be on this roster in January or February. What helped Ronald Jones is that they did nothing in free agency, they didn’t put any draft picks into running backs.”"

While the carries may even out a bit in 2019, do not expect it to be 50/50 at this point in the offseason.

"“I still think it’s very much Peyton Barber’s position from a primary running back standpoint. If Ronald Jones starts doing things he wasn’t doing as a rookie and can make plays, I definitely think they are going to want to work him in.”"

Quite honestly, it is just too early to tell with such a fluid, hot handed position in the NFL.

"“It is kind of a reset… You don’t really know what to make of how they will split things up. They don’t really know… one of these guys that we think might be the third or fourth running back could be pushing Ronald Jones in August for all we know. I would just say it is a wait and see. I’m fully confident Barber and Jones will be on the team, but we don’t know how they will handle training camp and how they will split up carries from there.”"
