Entering his rookie season, linebacker and fifth overall pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Devin White has great odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.

After being taken fifth-overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2019 NFL Draft, linebacker Devin White enters his rookie year with the fourth-best odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. White finds himself behind only defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and pass rushers Nick Bosa and Josh Allen.

White is tied for fourth-best odds to win the award at +700 with fellow rookie linebacker Devin Bush, tenth overall pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The odds are in your favor to bet on White if that is your sort of thing to do.

White is coming off of a terror of a career at Louisiana State where he netted the Butkus Award for the nation’s best linebacker and was a consensus first team All-American in 2018. He totaled 62 solo tackles from his linebacker spot, 12 of which came behind the line of scrimmage, and three sacks. White also defended six passes throughout his All-American campaign from the middle of the Tigers’ defense as well.

Ever since landing in Tampa Bay, White has been the day-one started next to veteran Lavonte David in the middle of their defense led by new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. In the Buccaneers’ new 3-4 defensive scheme, White should be able to rack up the tackles and could find himself in more than his fair share of passing lanes.

Given the struggles and lack of depth of the Buccaneers’ defensive front, ball carriers could find their way to the second level more than any team would ever like to see. However, with this being said, White will have tons of opportunities to stuff the stat sheet in his rookie year. It would not be a shock to see White hoist the award for the best defensive rookie by the end of the 2019 season.
