He is… really good

At the end of the day, Devin White is just really good at playing football. He has proved it during his college career at Louisiana State, he has proved he has the athletic makeup of a star at the combine in March, and so far this Spring, he has been the player the Buccaneers thought they were getting when they utilized their first round pick on him in April.

At the combine, White ran the fastest 40 yard dash of any linebacker at the combine, and his film has shown an ability to run sideline to sideline. While he needs to become more disciplined at using his 4.4 40 speed to dart into the correct gap, working with Bowles should turn out to be a match made in heaven for both White and the Buccaneers.

Linebackers are a premium position, similar to running backs, where they do not need to be prioritized on the defensive side of the ball like pass rushers and cornerbacks need to be. For the Buccaneers to take a linebacker with the fifth overall pick either speaks high praise of White, or the inability of the front office to prioritize a draft board.

Going with the former, White has the talent, potential, and perfect system and context to excel in 2019 and take home the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. With the fourth-best odds at this point, look for those odds to only increase in favor of White once the seasons starts.
