Jeff Allen
Jeff Allen has been quite the journeyman over his short seven year career to this point. He was drafted in the second round by the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2012, where he spent the first four years of his career. He then played two years with the Houston Texans before returning to Kansas City last year on a one-year deal; he is just 29 years old.
Again, it is going to be hard to find a bonafide starter on the market at this point in the offseason, so the Buccaneers will be more than likely looking for a placeholder for a year. Allen would give the Buccaneers a ton of flexibility as he has played guard and tackle throughout his career, and has started 66 total games in the past seven seasons; last year with the Chiefs he started four games at left guard for the AFC runner-ups.
Pro Football Focus (subscription required) ranked Allen as an average NFL starter for his performance last year in Kansas City with a score of 56.5. If the Buccaneers need someone who can plug a hole on the boat to stop it from flooding, Allen could be that for them.
If the Buccaneers are truly still looking for an avenue to add a starter to their offensive line at right guard, then this may be the route to take. Allen would be an upgrade from Smith, Watford, and LeRibeus and could bide the Buccaneers another year without allowing for the offensive line to completely implode.
