Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Re-drafting the historically bad 2016 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Round 2, Pick 59: Yannick Ngakoue, EDGE, Maryland
Original Selection: Roberto Aguayo, K, Florida State
Maybe the worst pick in the entire 2016 NFL Draft made by any team was the selection of kicker Aguayo by the Buccaneers. Not only did Tampa Bay take a kicker in the second round, but they used valuable draft assets to trade back up into the round in order to take a kicker… a kicker.
Aguayo lasted only one season in Tampa Bay after he connected on just 71 percent of his kicks, while missing two extra points before they were moved back as well; He missed seven-of-11 kicks from over 40 yards as well. Still on the board at the end of the second round was Jacksonville Jaguars pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue.
While Aguayo is no longer in the league, Ngakoue has made one Pro Bowl for the Jaguars and is on the verge of a massive payday. In 47 starts with the Jaguars, Ngakoue has tallied 29.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and 29 tackles for loss; he has also reached the quarterback 70 additional times.
It is a miracle Licht still has a job today after this historically poor selection of Aguayo with talent still on the board. The Buccaneers picked another kicker in the fifth round this year, failing to learn from their mistakes.
