Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Re-drafting the historically bad 2016 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Round 5, Pick 148: Jordan Howard, RB, Indiana
Original Pick: Caleb Benenoch, OT, UCLA
Oh man, where to begin with fifth round pick Caleb Benenoch out of UCLA. He has started 22 games in his career, but saw himself as the full time starter of the Buccaneers at right guard last year. Needless to say, last year was his first and last year starting for the Buccaneers.
Benenoch graded out as a below average player for his performance in 2018 with a score of 43.6 according to PFF. The Buccaneers have since moved him to right tackle in order to contribute as a potential swing offensive lineman in 2019. The Chicago Bears took Indiana running back Jordan Howard after Benenoch came off the board; he has since been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Last year, Howard fell just 65 yards short of rushing for 1,000 yards in all three of his seasons in the NFL to this point, and has scored 24 touchdowns while averaging 4.3 yards per carry. In Philadelphia’s run-and-gun offensive system, Howard should find lanes to run through and get back to 1,000 yards on the ground in 2019 and get back to the Pro Bowl where he has been once before.
Benenoch is entering the last year of his contract, and will more than likely not be brought back to Tampa Bay past 2019, if he even makes the final 53-man roster. Howard will be getting a payday at the end of this season as he is set to hit free agency.
