EDGE Jadeveon Clowney

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Houston Texans and pass rusher Jadaveon Clowney would not reach an agreement on a new deal as he plays out his franchise tag. With that being said, the former first overall pick is now on the trade market.

While Clowney’s career started with a ton of injuries, he has stayed relatively healthy over the past three seasons. In that span, he has tallied 24.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, an astounding 53 tackles for loss, and a monster 59 hits on the quarterback.

With the injury to Pierre-Paul, the Buccaneers currently only have Carl Nassib, Shaquil Barrett, Noah Spence, and rookie Anthony Nelson as viable options off the edge. Even worse news, only Nelson is contracted to stay in Tampa Bay beyond 2019, leaving the Buccaneers in a potential world of hurt after this year.

Trading for and locking up Clowney for the future would soften the blow of potentially losing Pierre-Paul for good and seeing a combination of Barrett, Nassib, and Spence walking out the door after the season. He would give the Buccaneers an immediate boost off of the edge, and allow for the Buccaneers to use Spence, Nassib, and Nelson sparingly and in a rotational role rather than overloading their plate.
