After months of speculation over the summer, the Buccaneers were finally able to showcase their new and improved defensive unit under Todd Bowles.

The first day of training camp is in the books for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and as of now the future is looking bright on defense. The players looked excited to finally get the chance to work together as a complete and cohesive unit.  There are still many question marks around the team but Todd Bowles is already starting to show his prowess as a defensive coordinator.

Bowles gave his first looks at what the starting defense could look like with players like Carlton Davis, Noah Spence, and Mike Edwards in contention for starting spots amongst the usual suspects. Devin White and Lavonte David looked very comfortable lining up next to each other as though they’ve already done it for a lifetime.

Vita Vea is in great shape and looks ready to use his frightening combination of massive size and speed to bring fear into the hearts of offenses across the league. As a whole, the defense seemed to be firing on all cylinders for the first day, which should come as a surprise to anyone who follows the Bucs. Perhaps Todd Bowles was just the guy to bring the Buccaneers back into relevancy on the defensive side of the ball. Here are three of the biggest takeaways from the defense on day one of Training Camp.
