Last year’s first round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Vita Vea is getting a second look at his knee tomorrow after going down during practice.

Earlier this week, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea went down with a knee injury during practice at training camp. He had an initial evaluation that showed some swelling and fluid in his knee, and tomorrow he is scheduled to go back for an MRI on the knee.

There has been no timetable on Vea’s return to the field, and for now, the Buccaneers are just hoping to avoid anything major. After being selected in the first round a year ago, Vea missed most of the season a year ago, and now may be in line to miss time again in his sophomore season.

Heading into this season, many are high on Vea to make a significant impact on the Buccaneers’ defensive front, including the likes of Pro Football Focus. Vea has slimmed down this season in hopes of staying on the field longer as well, but an injury, especially to the knee, could be a major setback.

If Vea were to miss time, Beau Allen is listed as the second string nose tackle on the Buccaneers’ first official depth chart. This is just another injury on the list of potential starters who are hurt along with Lavonte David, Scotty Miller, and Justin Evans.

These injuries are starting to become a concern for the Buccaneers, as the regular season is less than a month away. Hopefully the likes of Vea and David can get healthy by the regular season; the Buccaneers must take the cautious approach and sit them out the entirety of the preseason.
