Linebacker: Devin White

There may not be a player with more buzz surrounding their Buccaneers’ debut than that of their 2019 first round pick in linebacker Devin White. After being selected as the fifth overall pick in the draft, White has received every single first team snap since day one as the Buccaneers are not planning to ease him into his NFL transition.

The Butkus Award winner for college football’s best linebacker now enters the NFL with expectations to the moon. Whether it is fair or not to put these expectations on White, any linebacker taken in the top ten, let alone the top five is going to face them.

In his one to two series that he will see tonight, White must show discipline in areas where he lacked in college, mainly sticking to run assignments and not over pursuing. It also would not hurt to see him force a turnover or, you know, score a defensive touchdown to really get Bucs’ fans jazzed.

White has been highly touted for his leadership ability, and tonight will be his first opportunity to display why the Buccaneers invested a high asset into him. Hype always surrounds team’s first round draft picks, and White is no different.
