After the opener of the preseason for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they have plenty to be optimistic about with their first team performance.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have concluded their first live action of the preseason, suffering a 30-28 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It is, however, just preseason and a chance for coaches to see the depth they have on their roster and to give the young guys a chance to get accustomed to life in the NFL.

The Buccaneers’ first team offense went right down the field and scored, showing the flash and promise that has been hyped up on that side of the football. The first team defense then came on the field and forced a punt after giving up a long ball from Steelers’ quarterback Josh Dobbs to James Washington.

It was then a slug fest for the rest of the night as both teams went up and down the field. The depth on the defensive side of the football seems like a real issue, while the offense should be able to light off some fireworks this season.

Here are five standout performers from yesterday’s game against the Steelers for the Buccaneers.

Honorable Mention:
Linebacker Corey Nelson as he finished with five solo tackles and a tackle for loss.

Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves who got burned on the first series of the game, but then had an interception called back where he made a great play on the ball.

Linebacker Deone Bucannon recorded a sack and a tackle for loss in his time on the field with the first team defense in relief of Lavonte David, who is out with a knee injury.

Wide receiver Chris Godwin with two catches and a score in his one series.
