Is Tanner Hudson moving up?

If this offseason is any indication, the Buccaneers are going to live in a two tight end set in the 2019 regular season. The first duo of tight ends is O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate while the second group is starting to materialize as Antony Auclair and Tanner Hudson which should come as a surprise who followed the offseason signing of Jordan Leggett by the Bucs.

Hudson so far has had the best preseason for the Buccaneers with 177 yards and two touchdowns over the course of two games. Hudson is beginning to solidify himself as the third best receiving tight end on the roster, but whether he takes over Antony Auclair’s third spot on the depth chart will remain to be seen.

While it is not their go to formation, if the Buccaneers were to break out a three tight end set it is still the most likely that Antony Auclair will be the third end on the offensive line to provide assistance at blocking. While this would be the case primarily if the Buccaneers were looking to run the ball, Hudson should probably be brought on for a passing three tight end set as he is a far more competent receiver. Not to look too far ahead, but don’t be surprised if Hudson replaces Brate as a cheaper alternative in the future.
