Jamel Dean shines in debut

The Buccaneers seem set on the idea that the starting corners will be Vernon Hargreaves and Carlton Davis. These two took the lion’s share of the starting reps at corner and played decent despite the conditions. The depth chart in the secondary for the Bucs is still very unclear but Jamel Dean was able to make a case for himself (while also making a case for why he should also perhaps not be a starter.)

While Josh Rosen did not throw and interception last night, he practically got away with murder as Jamel Dean dropped a very easy interception. While the night was full of bad passes from both sides and dropped passes across the field, Dean will surely be wishing he had kept his eye on the ball for just a moment longer.

Dean was in the perfect position, the ball was eye level, and he had two yards of separation as though he was running a route for Josh Rosen. The ball was perfectly timed, Dean could just not seal the deal.

Clearly distraught, Dean was able to turn his fortunes around later in the game when he had the only interception of the night in the end zone. Dean was again in the perfect spot and timed the ball perfectly this time, catching it and making sure to get his feet in bounds in the back of the end zone to count as a catch. While the stats aren’t what they could have been, Dean made a case last night that he should start over Sean Murphy-Bunting and could be called upon in big moments in the future.
