CB Sean Murphy-Bunting

After the Buccaneers invested a second round pick into him, Sean Murphy-Bunting had a blazing start to training camp, seemingly getting his hands on footballs everyday in practice. However, the rookie from Central Michigan has not fared as well in live action through the first two weeks of the preseason.

Giving up a touchdown against the Steelers in week one, Murphy-Bunting took some massive lumps in his first professional football game. Last week against the Dolphins, the MAC product did not fare much better either as third round pick Jamel Dean jumped off the film for the Buccaneers.

Murphy-Bunting is in no danger of losing a roster spot after the Buccaneers made such a large investment into him last April, but the rookie must show some signs of improvement throughout the last two weeks of the preseason. He will have a test Friday night as the Cleveland Browns have a deep wide receiver group that consists of Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, and more.

With great size and athleticism, Murphy-Bunting’s upside jumps off the charts, and it is too early to put too much worry into him or jump to strong conclusions. Keep an eye on the rookie cornerback throughout the process of these last two weeks of the offseason before the regular season rolls around.
