S Jordan Whitehead

No other Buccaneers’ player had a better game against the Browns than safety Jordan Whitehead. In a battle to start at a safety position where the Buccaneers lack depth and talent, Whitehead made a strong case for the role when the Browns came to town.

Whitehead’s performance was wrapped up with an interception of Baker Mayfield as the Browns were attempting to get into field goal range near the end of the half. He finished the dress rehearsal performance with two solo tackles and two additional passes defended in addition to his interception.

After the injury to Chris Conte a year ago, Whitehead started 11 games for the Buccaneers, finishing the season with four passes defended, 61 solo tackles and four tackles for loss. Whitehead again looks to be in good position to win a starting job, especially considering the injuries to both Justin Evans and Mike Edwards that have sidelined them both.

While the Buccaneers are still sorting out their starting lineup, Whitehead could see some extended time on the field against the Lions in order to solidify his role as a starting safety in the pewter and red. He has momentum heading into the regular season after a solid showing against the Browns.
