Middle Linebackers

Lavonte David

The new leader of the Buccaneers’ defense after the departure of Gerald McCoy, Lavonte David is going nowhere anytime soon. The Buccaneers look to get David back for their week one matchup next Sunday after he had minor surgery early in camp to repair his MCL. In Todd Bowles’ new defensive scheme, David could burst back onto the scene and re-emerge as one of the league’s best linebackers.

Devin White

The Buccaneers took Devin White with the fifth overall pick to become a staple in their defense for many years to come. He does, however, still have some adjusting to the NFL to do after a quiet summer. His biggest knock coming out of LSU this Spring was his discipline to run gaps, and he has shown the tendency to over pursue still.

Deone Bucannon

Among the most versatile players on the entire Buccaneers’ roster, Deone Bucannon is safe to make the final 53-man roster, barring a massive surprise. The Buccaneers will use Bucannon in a number of ways from traditional linebacker, to nickel backer. Expect Bucannon to be all over the field for Bowles and the Buccaneers’ defense.

Kevin Minter

Kevin Minter has played solid for the Buccaneers when he has seen playing time this preseason. Minter knows Arians and Bowles well from their time together in Arizona, and that helps him to make the final roster, providing the Buccaneers with some much needed linebacker depth.

Jack Cichy

After recovering from a season ending knee injury a year ago, Jack Cichy has burst onto the scene in his second preseason and looks to be back to full speed. Expect the fourth and final middle linebacker spot to go to Cichy as he has played with his hair on fire ever since returning to the field for the Buccaneers.
