Before-the-season 2020 mock draft for Tampa Bay Buccaneers
By Cory Kinnan
6.168: Jeff Thomas, WR, Miami
Adding a wide receiver in the sixth round for the Buccaneers would make the second year in a row that they have done so in the draft after taking Scotty Miller out of Bowling Green last April. However with Miami receiver Jeff Thomas still on the board, the Buccaneers make the move to add more offensive firepower to their arsenal.
Besides, Miller barely made the team because the Buccaneers decided to keep six receivers this season at cutdowns, Breshad Perriman is set to hit free agency again at the expiration of his one year deal after this year, and Justin Watson and Bobo Wilson are unproven entities. Thomas would immediately upgrade the receiver position in Tampa and could give Winston, or whoever is playing quarterback next year, another weapon to throw to.
In his first two seasons with the Hurricanes, Thomas has recorded 937 total receiving yards and five touchdowns; he hit 563 yards and three scores on 35 catches a year ago with sub-par quarterback play. Averaging nearly 18 yards per catch in his career, Thomas could look to be a deep threat in Arians’ vertical offensive system moving forward in Tampa.
