Buccaneers mock draft Monday after week one loss to 49ers
By Cory Kinnan
2.40: Lucas Niang, OT, TCU
If the Buccaneers do need to draft another quarterback when the 2020 NFL Draft arrives, then they will have to do so with their first round pick. However a definite need for the Buccaneers as well is along the offensive line and they look to address that need with their second round pick here in this mock draft simulation.
With the 40th overall pick in the draft, the Buccaneers are fortunate enough to draft offensive tackle from Texas Christian, Lucas Niang. While the Buccaneers signed Donovan Smith to an extension this offseason, it would not hurt any fan for them to cut bait after this season, even if it means eating a portion of dead money to do so.
Additionally, Demar Dotson is entering the last year of his contract, and had a poor performance in yesterday’s game, being called for two separate holding calls that negated Cameron Brate touchdowns. Niang would give the Buccaneers a plug-and-play tackle who is now a senior and has plenty of experience under his belt.
Listed at 6-7 and 328 pounds, Niang would give the Bucs an immense amount of size and length to handle pass rushers off the edge of opposing defenses. He started 13 games last night for the Horned Frogs, was ranked as the highest graded tackle in the Big 12 according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), and was named to the second team All-Big 12.
