All systems go at wide receiver

The Bucs’ receiving core had a day to forget and they can chalk that up to poor quarterback play, but also some bad drops on their part. Unfortunately most pass catchers are only as good as the quarterback allows them to be, and with Winston having a miserable day, it greatly handicapped the wideouts.

Now that Evans is healthy I would expect a way better performance and for him to find the end zone tonight against the Panthers. Godwin will always draw the second best corner on opposing defenses so continue to start him as a second wide receiver with high upside.

Tight End O.J. Howard had a lost fumble last week, which was the icing on the cake to an already low scoring effort. While it was a rough week last week against the Niners, I would confidently start all three of Evans, Godwin and Howard and hope for the best.

Tampa Bay defense actually had a pretty solid outing last week in which we saw them give up 19 points; they also added a sack, interception, fumble recovery, and a defensive touchdown. While it was a good performance, there is reason for hesitation to start the Bucs’ D on a short week on the road.

Last season the Panthers were fourth in total rushing yards, while the Bucs gave up the ninth most rushing yards in the league. Christian McCaffrey and Cam Newton will look to run all over the Bucs if this performance on the ground continues. If Tampa Bay can hold their own in the run defense, this has potential to be a close matchup that goes back and forth.
