Just Missing the cut

S Jordan Whitehead

The second year safety looks like a favorite of defensive coordinator Todd Bowles as he has been flying around the field like a heat-seeking missile. Jordan Whitehead has been lining up in the box and over the top of the Buccaneers’ defense and looks much improved from his rookie campaign.

C Ryan Jensen

In need of a bounce back year for the Buccaneers after struggling a year ago for the Buccaneers, center Ryan Jensen is looking like the player who is getting paid the $10 million that he is. While Jensen has always been a scrappy player, which makes him a great teammate, he is starting to back it up by playing tough between the whistles as well.

CB Carlton Davis

Cornerback Carlton Davis continues to prove the doubters wrong. After a rough rookie season and an offseason that saw the Buccaneers draft two cornerbacks with early picks, Davis entered the offseason with a target on his back. He has responded by elevating his play, beating out Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean this summer, and locking down opposing receivers to start the season.

LB Lavonte David

Consistent. The only necessary word to describe veteran linebacker and leader of the defense Lavonte David. Entering his eighth season in the league, David continues to be counted upon for the Buccaneers and will again burst onto the scene under Bowles. After rookie Devin White went down in the first quarter, the Buccaneers needed to lean on David even more, and he did not disappoint.
