3 players the Buccaneers should target instead of Jalen Ramsey
By Cory Kinnan
EDGE Genard Avery
A fifth round pick of the Cleveland Browns just one year ago, and he played well as a rookie. However in his second season, he has been a healthy scratch in both games to start the season as the Browns transitioned from Gregg Williams to Steve Wilks at the defensive coordinator job; the Buccaneers could use one more body off the edge to give them a lethal rotation at outside linebacker.
In five starts with the Browns as a rookie, Avery recorded four and a half sacks, five tackles for loss, and 14 hits on opposing quarterbacks. If Wilks cannot figure out how to use Avery, then that is one him and not on the second year pass rusher. Given his lack of use in Cleveland, could he be on the market?
Although Shaquil Barrett is off to a torrid pace, Anthony Nelson was a top graded player in week two against the Panthers, and Carl Nassib has turned into a consistent force for the Buccaneers, Avery would give the Buccaneers a fourth body to really get after opposing quarterbacks.
It is unknown whether or not Avery is on the market, however two straight weeks as a healthy scratch in Cleveland cannot be a good sign for the second year pass rusher. If the Buccaneers were to offer a fourth or a fifth rounder for him, it may be good enough to pry him away from the Browns.
