Same teams, new looks

As the Buccaneers look for revenge this Sunday, both teams will look much different than they did a year ago. Out with Humphries and Jackson and in with Breshad Perriman and Justin Watson for the Buccaneers; the Giants will not have their two leading receivers from a year ago in this matchup either as Sterling Shepard will miss this game recovering from a thumb injury and Beckham Jr. was shipped off to Cleveland this offseason.

Defensively the Buccaneers will not have either player on the field who recorded their only sacks a year ago. Instead it will be NFC Defensive Player of the Week Shaquil Barrett and fourth year player Carl Nassib leading the attack with Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea bringing the heat from the middle.

Both teams will have different starting quarterbacks in this one as Fitzpatrick is now in Miami and Manning has just been benched for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, this should provide a few extra wrinkles to prepare for. In Sunday’s matchup, the Buccaneers must get after Jones early and often and make him as uncomfortable as possible in his NFL debut.

The one aspect of this matchup with the Giants that remains unchanged and the focal point of the Buccaneers’ defense on Sunday is their focus on star running back Barkley. If the Buccaneers want to come away as winners and get revenge on the Giants on Sunday, then they must prepare for Barkley to get 30 touches as the Giants will ride him to take pressure off of their rookie quarterback.

Most importantly, the Buccaneers will enter this rematch with a new and improved coaching staff; this cannot be undervalued when discussing the improvements in Tampa. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has the pewter and red defense flying around the field, while the offense is still working out kinks with offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

Bruce Arians did not come to the Bucs and sign up for a rebuild. Beating a team like the Giants is crucial to prove that they are no longer looking to rest at the bottom of the NFC South. Beating up on the bottom feeders of the NFL is a great way to prove around the league that you again belong with them.
