Mock Draft Monday: Buccaneers do not take a kicker
By Cory Kinnan
6.168 Calvin Throckmorton, OT, Oregon
Going Oregon in back-to-back rounds, the Buccaneers take another offensive tackle here as they prepare as if Smith is not going to be a long term answer at left tackle. Taking another tackle who would not be expected to start right away for the Buccaneers may be the ideal situation as he can sit and learn the ropes of the NFL for a year.
Calvin Throckmorton has big time pro potential, but has shown some flaws that need to be worked on if he wants to see his stock rise before next Spring. In fact, Oregon’s offensive line has five guys with pro potential moving forward, Throckmorton probably the most well known of them all.
Given Wanogho’s athleticism and slender build, he could always move into guard if needed as well for the Buccaneers. Adding a second tackle in this mock draft is strictly preventative as Smith has proven that he cannot be trusted long term to protect Jameis Winston or whomever will be playing quarterback long term.
Besides, it is better than spending a draft pick on a kicker, even in a mock draft. In this mock draft, the Buccaneers added a top-three overall player in the first round, a massive tackle in the second, an edge rusher to become a solid rotational player in the third, a high ceiling running back in the fourth, a gap stuffer for their defensive line in the fifth, then a preventative additional tackle here in the sixth.
