An estimated cost of retaining Nassib and Barrett

As a barometer of how much it may cost to retain the services of both Barrett and Nassib, the current market has to be evaluated. This offseason top free agent defensive ends Frank Clark and Dee Ford were tagged and traded; Ford received just over $17 million annually and $19.75 million guaranteed, Clark got nearly $21 million annually and nearly $44 guaranteed.

If Barrett keeps up this torrid pace and produces to the tune of one of the best pass rushers in the league, he will demand upwards of $18-20 million annually and between $30-40 million guaranteed on his next deal this offseason. Nassib’s market remains a relative mystery, but it will not even sniff that of Barrett’s potential earnings.

Pierre-Paul is due $12.5 million next season, so if the Buccaneers decide to move on from him, that would seem like a relatively safe estimate on what Nassib could usher in on his next deal. For anywhere from $10-$12 million annually for Nassib’s extension, it would be a steal for the Buccaneers.

Like peanut butter and jelly, thunder and lightning, or fire and ice, the Buccaneers have found a set of edge rushers who complement one another perfectly. Shaquil Barrett and Carl Nassib have been a force for opposing tackles all season, and they have both found a home in Tampa Bay after being cast off from their former teams; the Buccaneers must make sure they both stay in pewter and red after the 2019 season.
