QB Jameis Winston

Last and certainly not least, the Buccaneers are going to have to pony up and pay Jameis Winston the big bucks in order to keep him in Tampa Bay. While historically his play has not been all too consistent, Winston has shown massive strides over the last three weeks of the season, turning the ball over just twice; bad turnovers are a part of who Winston is, like Brett Favre, but he has found a way to manage them over this three game span.

Yesterday Winston torched one of the league’s better secondaries for 385 yards and four touchdowns, throwing one pick as well. Completing over 68 percent of his passes, Winston finished with a passer rating of 120.5 in yesterday’s shootout against the defending NFC champs.

Whether you like it or not, Winston is going to demand anywhere from $27-30 million annually on his next deal. He currently makes over $20 million now, so he will not take a paycut, head coach Bruce Arians loves him, and the Bucs did not hire a 60 year old head coach to head into a rebuild.

The quarterback market is set pretty high, and the Bucs would be wise to get a deal done before the offseason, as the price always magnifies once a player hits the open market. Winston is going to cost a pretty penny to keep in the pewter and red past the 2019 season.
