Mock Draft Monday on a Buccaneers victory Monday
By Cory Kinnan
5.143 Kalija Lipscomb, WR, Vanderbilt
With Chris Godwin and Mike Evans thriving in this Arians-led aerial assault down the field, the only thing missing is a safety valve for Winston. With the departure of Adam Humphries this offseason, the Buccaneers have not found that replacement as Breshad Perriman looks like a bust, and Scotty Miller has struggled to find the field as well.
Neither Justin Watson nor Bobo Wilson have solidified themselves as that valuable slot, safety for this Bucs’ offense either. Here in the fifth round, Arians has a chance to add the most decorated receiver in Vanderbilt history in Kalija Lipscomb to be that Humphries-esque player for the pewter and red.
Throughout his three years and four games for the Commodores, Lipscomb has tallied a massive 174 catches for over 2,110 yards and 21 touchdowns. Through the first four games of his senior campaign, Lipscomb has caught 23 passes for 268 yards and two scores for Vanderbilt thus far.
A safety valve is a quarterback’s best friend, and if you have a quarterback who loves to force throws every once in a while, having a slot who can get open underneath coverage is paramount. Lipscomb has been, and will continue to be that guy for the rest of his life.
