After torching the Rams for 385 yards and four touchdowns, Jameis Winston becomes the second Buccaneers player to win Player of the Week honors.

Becoming the second player from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season to win Player of the Week honors, quarterback Jameis Winston has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after torching the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Winston becomes the first Bucs’ offensive player to win the award since current Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick did so the first two weeks of the season a year ago.

In his contract year, Winston has begun to show signs of consistency and improvement that the Buccaneers have been looking for since selecting him with the first overall pick back in 2015. Under head coach Bruce Arians, Winston has put together three consistent games in a row and is on his way to seeing a filthy rich contract extension come his way.

In a much more important sense, Winston is showing the front office in Tampa Bay that he can once again be trusted both on and off the field. This offseason, Winston stayed out of headlines and instead dedicated his time to humanitarian events, such as hosting the Special Olympics this summer. On the field, after a miserable week one performance, Winston has turned the ball over just twice in the last three weeks.

Through the first quarter of the season, Winston has already tallied close to 1,200 yards passing, nine scores, and just five interceptions (three of which came in the week one loss to the San Francisco 49ers). At this pace, Winston is on pace for over 4,600 yards and 36 touchdowns as the Buccaneers now sit with a 2-2 record and firmly in the race for the NFC South title.

As the Bucs dethroned the defending NFC champion Rams in Los Angeles on Sunday, Winston was slinging the ball all over the field for the pewter and red offense. Winston finished the 55-40 shootout against the Rams with 385 passing yards and four touchdowns, completing 68 percent of his passes; deservedly, the NFL recognized Winston with Player of the Week honors.
