Start em’: Buccaneers’ Defense

This week the Bucs defense will face Saints’ backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who has not looked great since coming in for Drew Brees. Since the injury to Brees, which forced the former Louisville standout into action, Bridgewater has yet to throw for 200 yards in a game.

The Bucs’ defense will send plenty of pressure at Bridgewater this week and I expect Shaquil Barrett and Ndamukong Suh to be disruptive to the Saints passing game. If the Bucs pass rush can continue to get to the quarterback then this game might get ugly.

The Saints offensive line has allowed eight sacks so far this season and 14 quarterback hits, expect the number of sacks to go up tremendously this week. The wildcard will be the secondary, as the Buccaneers’ pass defense ranks just about middle of the road this year.

If the likes of Vernon Hargreaves, Carlton Davis, and M.J. Stewart can contain wide receiver Michael Thomas, then the Buccaneers should be alright. Against the run, the Bucs have surrendered under 70 rushing yards to Saquon Barkley, Todd Gurley, and Christian McCaffery combined; they look to make Alvin Kamara their next Pro Bowl victim.

Start the Bucs’ defense as they will likely stack the box to stuff Kamara and force Bridgewater to make plays with his arm, something he has not shown a great ability to do thus far.
