Sit em’: TE O.J. Howard

Last week tight end O.J. Howard surprisingly struggled against the Rams in a high scoring game, which is a cause for concern. This week he faces another good defense and he should expect to get some targets from Winston, but he has yet to have more than 66 yards in a game this season.

The Saints defense has only allowed an average of 57.3 yards to tight ends this season; the Pro Bowl caliber tight end has yet to have a touchdown yet this season as well, which may be more to do with his usage than anything else. While finding himself on the field for the majority of offensive snaps, Howard has been asked to stay in as an in-line blocker more often than not.

Bruce Arians has never utilized the tight end in his offensive systems, and while many thought this would change with the freak athlete that Howard is, that has not been the case. Howard was expected to be a massive breakout candidate this season, and instead, we have seen a dip in his offensive production for the Buccaneers.

Howard will have his chances this season to turn around his fantasy production, just don’t expect it to be this week in New Orleans.
