5 targets for Buccaneers secondary not named Jalen Ramsey
5. Jamal Adams, New York Jets
While this may come as a surprise to you, Jamal Adams may be available as he is currently disgruntled with the New York Jets; it has not been confirmed that Adams is ready to leave the Jets, but Adams’s frustration has to be building as the Jets are now 0-4. Adams is clearly upset as he has removed the Jets from his social media profiles and that could mean his days in New York are numbered.
Adams was drafted sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Jets and is only 23 years old, and it just so happens that the coach who drafted him is now the defensive coordinator in Tampa. While it’s uncertain that the Jets would even be willing to part with Adams this early, it’s still worth mentioning as players have gained the leverage to force themselves out of bad situations.
Adams is under team control through 2020 and is owed $7 million next season, with a fifth year option for the 2021 season. It would likely take at least a first-round pick to acquire Adams, but he may be worth the price; realistically, everyone wants a first round pick, many settle for less.
Adams is a gamer, a real threat in his ball-hawking abilities, and is one of the hardest hitting safeties in the league. To say he would help the Bucs secondary is a no-brainer, he would not only help the Bucs this season, but he may be the cornerstone of this defense. If for some reason the Jets are willing to part with Adams so early in his career, a lot of teams will be calling and hopefully, the Bucs will be one of them.
