2.49: Shaun Wade, CB, Ohio State

Here we go again; the Buccaneers using another day two pick on another defensive back. However, through the first five games of the season, the Buccaneers’ secondary has had minimal successes and looks only a bit more improved from a year ago.

Outside of Carlton Davis, the cornerbacks have been terrible for the Buccaneers as Vernon Hargreaves looks even more like a bust and M.J. Stewart looks outclassed. Rookie and second round pick Sean Murphy-Bunting came up with an interception in yesterday’s game, but was beaten on the route and managed to get a tip to fall in his lap.

The good news for Murphy-Bunting and rookie Jamel Dean is that the jury is still out on them. However, do not but it past the Bucs to take another corner this year, and this corner is Shaun Wade out of Ohio State. The Buckeyes may have claim to DBU, producing multiple first rounders over the past four years, and Wade may find himself in that conversation.

Listed at 6-1 and 200 pounds, Wade has been playing predominantly in the nickel at Ohio State with future first rounder Jeffrey Okudah and upper-classman Damon Arnette playing on the outside. However Wade has shown the ability to stick anyone in man coverage and has the size to play inside or outside of the numbers.
