Mock Draft Monday: Buccaneers use another high pick at cornerback
By Cory Kinnan
Summary/How we got here
Using The Draft Network’s mock draft machine, the Buccaneers were aligned to pick 17th in the draft; this slot will likely slide down a bit after the week five defeat at the hands of the Saints, probably into the top 15. The Buccaneers’ biggest team needs are at offensive tackle, another cornerback (sigh), and some pass rush help both inside and out.
Below is proof of the results of the mock draft, tweeted out from The Pewter Plank account:
Here the Buccaneers were able to land one of the best, if not the best, offensive tackle in the draft class with the 17th pick in Andrew Thomas.
In the second round they were able to grab maybe the fastest rising cornerback in the class in Ohio State’s Shaun Wade in order to finally help to land the shutdown corner they have desperately been looking for. The third round found the Bucs adding a potential Ndamukong Suh replacement in Rashard Lawrence, who has the potential to be a gifted tackle at the next level.
On day three of this mock draft, the Bucs were able to add another running back to potentially replace Peyton Barber in 2020 and give the pewter and red a tandem of Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Ronald Jones. Taking flyers on low-risk, high reward prospects in both the fifth and sixth round, the Bucs took pass rusher Alex Highsmith and linebacker Evan Weaver to improve their depth on the defensive side of the ball.
