Round 4: S Shyheim Carter, Alabama
Shyheim Carter is another player that definitely has the potential to be unavailable at this spot. If he plays well enough, he could jump into the second or even possibly the first round.
However, he’s projected to be a fourth-rounder at the moment. If he is available, he would be a steal.
Carter is a good cover-safety who could double as a slot corner. He’s excellent in press coverage and a decent tackler for his size. He excels in open-field tackling, something the Buccaneers need dire help with.
With Justin Evans out for an indefinite amount of time, the Buccaneers could use more help at safety, and Carter would provide some extra security.
Round 5: LB T.J. Brunson, South Carolina
The Buccaneers are fresh off of drafting Devin White fourth overall in the 2019 NFL draft, but the future of the position is still very much up in the air.
Shaq Barrett has been a godsend at linebacker and defensive end, but it’s unknown whether or not the Buccaneers can afford to retain him after this season, given Jameis Winston’s likely extension.
His biggest asset is that he plays bravely against blockers of much larger sizes and is an exceptional talent on blitz plays. He is around the same size as White, but he’s not as athletic and doesn’t play downfield well. He could be an interesting piece in the Bucs defense.
Round 6: EDGE Jonathan Greenard, Florida
Jonathan Greenard has already recorded four sacks this season for the Gators and has the potential to shoot up the draft board quickly. He’s modestly signed at defensive end, but he could convert to outside linebacker and could proove to be a decent edge rusher on third-down plays.
On a defensive line that’s been plagued by injuries, Greenard could provide more depth to a thin position group for the Buccaneers.
