Buccaneers cut wide receiver Bobo Wilson, linebacker Devante Bond
By Cory Kinnan
Even though the Buccaneers are on their bye week, the front office remains busy as the team has released Bobo Wilson and Devante Bond.
Just two days after one of the worst displays of punt returning in the league, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released wide receiver and return specialist Bobo Wilson. Additionally, the team has moved on from backup linebacker Devante Bond.
Wilson is coming off more than likely the worst game of his life, where he muffed two punts, including one that was recovered by the Carolina Panthers to seal the game shut. Additionally, he dropped one pass on the day, and the Bucs have finally told Wilson to walk the plank.
In a bit of a surprise, Bond has also been released, clearing up a second roster spot on the Bucs. Bond was one of just three players remaining from the 2016 draft class, along with Ryan Smith and Vernon Hargreaves. He has been a contributor as a starter when injuries were piling up in the past and on special teams.
No corresponding moves have been made yet by the Bucs, but one can be assumed to be Jason Pierre-Paul returning from injured reserve after suffering a broken vertebrae in his neck this Spring. It remains to be seen what the second move will be, or if JPP’s return is what caused the first move after all.
The Bucs are coming off of a 2-4 start to their season that included back-to-back losses to division rivals. It has yet to be seen if these moves are a sign of retreat, or if roster spots are being cleared for potential trades to be made to bring talent to Tampa.
For now, the Bucs are down one linebacker and one wide receiver as Wilson and Bond are on to their next ventures. The Bucs are on a bye this week, but will return to action against the Tennessee Titans in two weeks.
